Pioneer Day is September 7 at Cheyenne City Park
The annual Pioneer Day at the Cheyenne City Park this year will have new and exciting events for the entire family on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 from 11am till 3:30pm.
At 11am, a program will begin in the Park Pavilion by the Cheyenne High School Band and Vocal Music Departments. This year’s ceremony is dedicated to thanking those who have contributed to the heritage of the museums in the park. Everyone who has donated and contributed items to the Museums is invited to the open recognition ceremony.
At 11:30 am, the activities will be in full swing with goat roping, butter churning, kettle cooking, treadle sewing, a scavenger hunt, and shop in the General Store for pioneer toys. Games and learning activities will be set for the children sponsored by the Western Plains Library System. Kids are also sure to enjoy the craft corner - where they can make a paper doll, note cards, a rope, plus something for our troops. They can also play old time games – sponsored by the Girl Scout Troop. You can also hand-crank ice cream for all to enjoy.
The Pioneer and Veterans’ Museums, Sleif House, and Santa Fe Depot will be open from 11 am till 3:30p. The Roll One Room School will be open only from 11a till 1p. The Pioneer and Centennial Museums are air-conditioned for comfortable viewing.
The Cheyenne FFA will be entertaining with their “Farmhand Olympic Contests”. You can also learn about local history from the Washita Battlefield Exhibit; and Blacksmithing from local blacksmiths. You will also have the opportunity to create and contribute your cattle brand to the Pioneer Museum collection.
Concessions of Indian Tacos by the Class of 2021, and Hamburgers will be available by the Boy Scouts. Vendors will also be on the premises selling goods with food booths including Sno Cones for refreshment.
Also at 1pm, the Day Hunt Donation Auction will begin of quail, deer, wild hogs, coyote, and turkey hunts on private land. Following, the Donation Auction with new items such as, two OU and two OSU football event tickets, prints, toys, numerous gift certificates and other items will be available for bidding.

The Historic Roger Mills Preservation and Development Foundation and Masonic Lodge #133 hope you and your family will attend and enjoy this Pioneer Day of activities and events on Saturday, September 7th, in the Cheyenne City Park. In case of inclement weather, it will be relocated to the Roger Mills County Fair Barn.
